BRUTTI DI MARE: THE POETRY OF FRESH FISH IN THE HEART OF MILAN

by The Rolling Forks

For sea lovers this place will be like a dream of poetry!

The name itself reminds us that we are talking about a fancy product that is far from being ecstatically perfect.

Brutti di Mare (literally “Ugly from the sea”) is a bistrot  dedicated to oysters, mussels and seafood crudités (Piazzale A. Cantone n. 3)To guarantee the unbeatable daily freshness of its dishes there is a purification system installed in the basement. The great advantage of this tool is that it allows to save time, transport’s costs and, last but not least, it saves mollusc from continuous transfers and temperature’s variations.

All fishes arrive from the Adriatic Sea (exception made from the oysters that come from France) and they are kept alive in isothermic containers that stabilize oxygen, temperature and salinity of the water.

In other words: where could you possibly find something fresher than here?

The interior design is minimal and neat, the wooden floor reminds the ambience of a comfortable sailing boat lulled  by the sea. You can definitely feel transported into a French “bar à huîtres” with that touch of my beloved and warm Mediterranean style.

What is going to hit you the most is the diversity of the culinary offer: we have still impressed in our minds the taste of those oysters and mussels, simply and elegantly served on a iced platter. The “violet shrimp” of Gallipoli will be able to satisfy the palates of the most difficult guests with their refined yet delicate and fresh taste!

The head chef has been trained at the “Marchesi Accademia” (Marchesi is the most acclaimed Italian chef ) and you can sense it from every little detail!

The black linguine served with sea urchin pulp and burrata were able to create an explosion of flavor and happiness in our papillas.

The menu is wide and different, we recommend you to explore it! It was a pleasant surprise for us as well!

The dessert, a semifreddo of lemon and cocoa, has restored the perfect balance of flavours with that acidity and sweetness fused together.

Oh, I forgot: our meal has been perfectly matched with an excellent rosé salentino (Novementi-Menhir 2016). Yes, because even the wine list deserves a plause!

Cheers!
