Homemade walnuts bread – as hygge wants

by Kristel Cescotto

Luca always tease me for my (not so) secret passion for pillows. Sofa, chairs, on the floor, only the bathrooms don’t have them. The bed then – there I unleashed. He says that within a short time the “train” of pillows will start from the headboard to the foot, and that time is not far away.

My mother has always amazed at how the roman word “ozio” suited me. “Ozio” doesn’t mean laziness or idleness, is the italian way to define the art of taking your time for passions, hobbies, relax. As stay hours in the bath with unlimited availability of chill out music, magazines, books of any kind, essential oils and candles. My mom, on the other hand, takes not more of 5 minutes to have a shower.

At her urgent request “from where are you out?” For which every bad joke was wasted, has reply my Guru who believes that in my previous life I was a high-ranking noblewoman and her past are still too vivid and present in myself. Bad stuff go from honor roll to paper roll.

However, yesteryear nobility and nowadays misery aside, I feel super-hygge. If you wanna know what the word hygge means to me read what Ramona says here and Sara here. I almost finished to read The Danish way to happiness by Meik Wiking . I must say that up to page 127

I totally agree with my friend Meik.

Is surely a fad or mood of the moment, the hygge is not the first and certainly will not be the last – it’s crazy how I feel in sync with this way of seeing and reacting to daily life.

But is it true that, as the author says, the Danish word hygge is untranslatable in other languages? In fact we have to search for a word that enclose in one term all the sensations that make you feel good, cuddled and loved.

So, hygge is:

  • feeling good about yourself
  • surround yourself with friends who do not feel the embarrassment of the silence
  • the confidence
  • intimacy
  • the italian “bella vita”
  • fluffy socks
  • blankets
  • the stars in the sky
  • an hug
  • eat with your fingers
  • two hours in the bath because just because you want to
  • listening “Kiss me” and think about how cool it was when there was Dawson’s Creek at Tv
  • dinner with 4 frinds, stalkerizing Joshua Jackson once discovered his Instagram profile, Limoncello shots, send photos winking in direct, get blocked
  • the controversy out of the door please
  • light the fireplace even in May because it gives good vibes
  • the coffee in the mug drunk with both hands, the hot chocolate with cream
  • a slice of this homemade walnuts bread to booster with nutella.

Staying at home is the new going out. I want to live like that, with the sun in face.

I’ve talk about homemade walnuts bread. So: it has an extremely hyggeligt slow rising; eat it with fingers, either alone or in a good company. It is full of fiber and walnuts and all their benefits. It is obviously very tasty.

It’s homemade. It can be kept well for several days, but if you frozen a part it won’t be offended. It’s perfect in a sweet/ savoury / toasted / nature version.

And all this, for me, is infinitely hygge.
