Culture. Eat it

Flora and the penguin dance together.
They don’t need words to understand each other, there is an immediate harmony between them.
This silent book tells of a magical dance between a little girl and an elegant penguin.
The meeting is casual. Flora is getting ready to skate when a penguin comes out from under the bench. The little girl is a good dancer but it is no better. Each step is taking as one would step.
In a game of symmetries and mirrors Flora and the penguin give life to graceful pirouettes and airy vaults.
The penguin is still a penguin, however, and distracted by an appetizing prey it leaves Flora in the middle of the dance. The child’s reaction does show.
Will they find the lost magic? It looks at her, she looks at him. As reflected in a mirror will they see again and forgive each other? Who knows …
The author of this delightful book is Molly Idle, who, with the previous Flora and the flamingo has obtained the American recognition par excellence in the field of illustration for children, the Caldecott Honor Books.
Thanks to the elegance of the stroke, pastel shades, the clever use of “wings” that hold points of view, emotions and a selection of otherwise hidden details, this book is a continuous surprise.
It is perfect for your children, Chronicle Books publisher doesn’t miss a shot.
