CHRISTAMAS GIFT D.I.Y.: AROMATIC SALT JARS

by Kristel Cescotto

Ho ho ho Merry Christmas! This is a bit ‘special recipe, a little Christmas gift totally made with your own hands. My mom, since childhood, has always been prophesied what I’ll become when grew up: the junk dealers. You know those trucks (actually I think are not so frequent on the streets, but when I was child they were everywhere) filled and filled with found objects of all kinds, from bicycle wheels to the chair of antiques, so overflowing to have chandeliers as pendants dangling on the road? Ok I’ve accomplished my destiny in a box where years and years of quite compulsive accumulation took place: ribbons, beads and various trinkets. So I wanted to tell you that my magic box was a godsend for the realization of these delicious jars. The idea was given me by my cousin Michelle who last year gave me a jar of this salt. I have to admit that it really lasted a short time, I used it almost on every dish I prepared  (is particularly great on meat and potatoes). The great thing is that really does not take much (and at no cost) to obtain a little present, good and useful. Simply recycle jam jars and show off your creativity. Another idea may be to accompany your gift with a personalized note to write on with a positive thinking, dedicated to the person who donated it. Good work (and Merry Christmas).

INGREDIENTS
  • Salt q.s. (we used a kilogram for three jars)
  • Herbs (we used: rosemary, sage, thyme, chives)
MATERIALS
  • Glass jars
  • Wrapping paper
  • Cardstock
  • Tapes & ribbons
  • Fabrics
  • Wooden clothespins
  • And so on and so forth.

Special thanks: to (St.) Mattia all his patience and precision – without his help Sara and I would definitely have combined some disaster. A Michelle for inspiration. A mum Emanuela for its fantastic aromatic biodynamic vegetable garden.

Difficulty: Elementary my dear friends
Matching soundtrack: Silent night, Saint Motel

PROCESS

Wash the jars and remove the labels (with hot water and an abrasive sponge in just a second), let them dry thoroughly.
Gather herbs, wash and dry them. Now just chop a bit ‘at a time along with a little salt. Once chopped it all add the remaining salt and mix. Fill the jars with aromatic salt, screw the cap and give free rein to your imagination!

Bio:

Once upon a time there was a 30 years old girl, and she has not the slightest idea what it would be at 32: one, no one but for sure no one hundred thousand. Daughter, sister, friend, mom of a dog, woman of an amazing man. Thinker fulltime, practices the Universal Love. Always looking for which direction take to and who to be doing it. Thank God everything flows. Panta Rei. And in the end, as in a beautiful garden Bahai, she will be delighted by lighting… and she lived happily ever after.
