Ritual of happiness

by Ramona Lucarelli

I often wonder what they mean when people say that happiness lies in small things. It’s a difficult thing to answer as it depends upon the perspective of one’s own mind. Sometimes smell of coffee in the morning keeps me in a good mood, or sharing lunch in the company of a lovely person, or letting myself staring at the ceiling lying on the bed without a reason, like when I was fifteen and I had to think about my “huge” problems.

These moments have in common the expectation. You don’t have to wait for them, they just happen. A thought as with life. And with a book. In its way, reading is a little ritual. In bed by lamplight, leaning against the window during a train journey, on the bus with head down between pages, on the wall of the square… for every reader this is his own moment, and this is because reading is an individual experience.

But I would like …

that for all happiness is a simple thing,
that my little ritual could become yours too,
that reading become an experience to share.

Follow me, if you want.
