Words have power

by Ramona Lucarelli

At least, Hitler, eliminated the disabled for free.

This article is born today, on 28th February 2017.

It arises from an angry keyboard, by fingers moving frantically in the hope that what is going to put into words can break me free from the heavy weight I have on my heart.
In short, this article is more for me than for you, maybe.

Let’s stop saying that words are just words, because it is all too obvious that it is not.

Words have power, although no one seems to notice it.

We are living in the era of global communication, or so we believe, but never before has it seems to me they are sent continuously messages with words of which we ignore the correct meaning or the consequences after they have spoken; that behind a keyboard you can say anything to anyone because we aren’t face to face, of all of our faces we are only interested in taking selfies!

Once the problem was poverty of our vocabulary, today it is the poverty of spirit that inhabits certain people, men and women who ignore the power of language. Words are born from the desire to communicate and yet I, to quote Brunori sas, between posts, tweets and status sometimes I feel a sadness around me that it is hard to touch. But now I want to try to choose words that can explain that words can cause wounds that don’t heal.

We are free to share daily our views with the world, and it is far from me to put a limit to freedom of expression, but it’s really always possible to say anything, accept any opinion? I say no.

What are they called? “Haters”? Yeah, that’s them. People who sow in the net, because it is the case to say that they do it with the constancy of a sower, nasty comments to put into circulation a verbal violence that scares me. In a world that exists only in my mind the words perfumes of love, respect, tolerance, but when I wake up I realize that words enchant the masses, they can subvert the outcome of an application, they broken lives of vulnerable young people, unable to bear the weight of a lie, an half-truth, the silent words that come from cowards keyboards. Yes, because most of the time those same people are not able to handle a face to face confrontation.

Communicate means share, transmit, share information, feelings; social media and applications we choose are just the means that become the mouthpiece of the words we write. So I say: the words define us, we have to choose carefully the words to say. Our words are free also to express anger and disapproval, but always and only in respect of others.

Today after reading the Adinolfi post (in full) I thought: many haters hide behind absurd nicknames but he writes in the sunlight, by a public profile in which he is defined journalist and politician and I think, “the reality sucks , but it isn’t over. “
In case you missed it, I recently went to a concert of Brunori sas, an italian artist, and I feel inspired. In his songs I listened words that speak of a society that I’m not proud of, but I liked very much the one I saw at Palamostre of Udine; the crowd sang the words of a songwriter who has clearly photographed a piece of the real world. What can I do? Just as Dario Brunori,

I’ll never be cynical enough to stop believing that the world can be better than it is, but not so stupid to believe that the world can grow if I do not start from me.

I start from me, in the confident hope that you do too.
I can’t keep my mouth shut anymore in front of words used to express malice and verbal violence or hatred in front of any form of disrespect.

I believe that words have power, and you?
