THE BOOK ON THE NIGHTSTAND: THE END OF THE ALPHABET

by Ramona Lucarelli

This “improbable story” is the story of Ambrose and Zipper.

He’s a copywriter, she’s a fashion journalist, they live in London in their Victorian house.
Their life goes slowly until the threat of an incurable disease that leaves to Ambrose only one month to live. He feels totally loss and decides soon how to use the time he has left to live: he and Zipper will depart to unknown places, loved, desired. It’s a journey into the world – from A to Z – in an attempt to fight against the clock running inescapable.

Amsterdam, Berlin, Chatres, Deauville…
It’s hard to enjoy the journey knowing that soon you will have to leave what you love. It’s hard to think that someone or something can steal your life without saying a word and above all it’s hard to make the most of the precious time knowing that before that moment “had assumed that would last years.”

The End of the Alphabet by C. S. Richardson recounts the life, unpredictability life, and how any attempt – even the original one – can’t take away the melancholy that the word “end” inevitably brings. I believe that Ambrose has taken the best trip with the letter Z.
