Bruce Mau: an (incomplete) manifesto for growth

by Silvia Blazina

“Always trying to find myself!”
If you identify yourself in this sentence, you will understand how much frustration I feel being stuck between Not-more and Not-yet.

Wanting to do, without knowing what and how, it is a dilemma and more you try to think about it, the worse it gets. Ideas cannot be born in this way. Anxiety does not nourish ideas, whereas known thinkers claim the opposite. I am not talking about an idea the same as any other; I’m talking about Creative Idea.

The creative person, every area he worked in, finds complications and ideas by his own state of mind. It’s like a dog chasing its tail: the anxiety does not let you to produce, it creates discomfort, but it is also true that discomfort turns into motivation and challenge; overcome fear a blank canvas, to having your idea realized in front of you.

Its how the dog succeeds in catching his tail… but he cannot wag it! In this storm of thoughts I have in my mind, while I’m asking myself if the idea is right, if I am right for this job, that I see a Manifesto, the Bruce Mau’s Manifesto.

I defy anybody not to find himself in his point of view. You’ll read every word hungry and eager, like that voice comes out of your head. So you’ll stop feeling stupid and it becomes clear that all the doubts you have… everyone has!

My best wishes for your Creative phase: stop thinking, read the Manifesto, be self-deprecating and…create!

Hurrah for Bruce Mau!
