Eat out in Lisbon like a local: Estrela De Bica

by The Rolling Forks

Estrela da bica is music for the taste buds.

It is located in one of the most characteristic neighborhoods of Lisbon (Tv. Do do Cabral, 33, not far from the Miradouro se Santa Catarina); the place is very small and it is hard to move around the tables.

The dishes are presented like real compositions with high quality raw materials, very fresh and almost at zero km. Everything comes from the local market where every day the ingredients are wisely chosen .
The menu is based on Portuguese tapas dishes to be shared. The recipes are revisited but still maintain their authenticity since the ingredients (typically Portuguese) are skilfully exalted and not covered by other flavors.
We ordered the tuna tartare from the Azores, grilled sardine fillet served on pan brioche and accompanied by gherkin in oil, delicate hummus with seasonal vegetables, delicious soft boiled and grilled octopus with sweet potato and broccoli, a papaya salad Thai version and finally a fresh gazpacho.

Our lunch was accompanied by excellent natural Portuguese green vinho from the Alentejo countryside (barren region in the south of Lisbon).

The menu changes on a weekly basis according to the availability of the market, but the first impression was so good that we recommend it as our place in the heart of this beautiful city!

The restaurant speaks for itself visually: Estrela da Bica has a nice and recycled decor; an old-fashioned atmosphere with mismatched chairs and vintage tables.
A true “local star” not to be missed when passing through Lisbon!

Last but not least, we recommend ending the meal with a ginginha (famous Portuguese liqueur made with black cherries) !! DIVINE!
